FIRST TIME FRESHMAN STUDENT

A student who has never been admitted to and enrolled in a degree program at South Florida Technical College nor any other post-secondary institution of higher education is considered a First-Time Freshman student.

This includes dual enrollment students who have not yet graduated from high school. South Florida Technical College utilizes a holistic approach to admission which includes academic history, extracurricular activities, volunteer service, and an optional admission essay.

A student’s high school preparation should include units in the following core areas:

  • English: 4 units (3 with substantial writing)

  • Mathematics: 3 units (Algebra 1 and above)

  • Natural Science: 3 units (2 with lab)

  • Social Science: 3 units

  • Foreign Language: 2 units (in the same language)

  • Approved Electives: 4 units

High School Graduation: Graduated from an accredited high school or the equivalent GED is required.

Grade Point Average: A minimum high school cumulative grade point average of 2.4 is required. Students who have a high school cumulative grade point average which places them in the top twenty percent of their graduating class, and who complete the high school course distribution requirements as specified below, shall be given automatic admission to South Florida Technical College.

Applicants should submit SAT or ACT scores. Test scores are also used for advisement and placement purposes for first-time-in-college applicants.

  • Summer

    • 2.0 -2.39 GPA (unweighted)

    • SAT Score Range 500 – 699

    • ACT Score Range 13 – 16

    • Conditional Acceptance (pending final GPA)

  • Fall

    • 2.4 and up GPA (unweighted)

    • Minimum SAT Score 700 and up

    • Minimum ACT Score – 17 and up

    • Acceptance (maintain GPA through graduation)

TRANSFER STUDENT

South Florida Technical College welcomes hundreds of students from other institutions annually. Whatever your reason for transferring to SFTC, you’ll find lots of students like yourself on campus.

Transfer applicants are students who have completed academic studies at another college or university after graduating from high school. Second degree applicants are students who have already received an undergraduate (bachelor’s) degree from SFTC or another college/university. SFTC will accept up to 60 transferable credit hours. Transferrable credits are those completed at a regionally accredited College or University with a minimum grade of C or higher. This also includes courses taken during high school via dual enrollment.

APPLICATION PROCESS

 

1.     LETTER OF INTENT/OFFER LETTER

-       Student must receive, sign and send back LETTER OF INTENT/OFFER LETTER to info@southfloridatechnicalcenter.org to start the registration process into SFTC.

2.     SFTC APPLICATION PACKET

-       Student must fill out the SFTC APPLICATION PACKET. Application packet can be emailed upon request. Application must be emailed or mailed back to SFTC. info@southfloridatechnicalcenter.org or 1955 N FEDERAL HIGHWAY SUITE J201 POMPANO BEACH, FLORIDA 33062.

3.     FASFA

-       Student must complete FASFA (https://studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa) in order to receive Federal Financial Assistance to pay for the SFTC Program. When adding the school to FASFA the SCHOOL CODE IS 003783 NORTHWEST UNIVERSITY.

4.     Northwest University Application

-       Student must complete the NORTHWEST UNIVERSITY APPLICATION (https://northwestu.my.site.com/TX_SiteLogin?startURL=%2FTargetX_Portal__PB) and select a DEGREE PROGRAM. All supporting documents must be submitted as well.

5.     ACCEPTANCE LETTERS

-       Once the NORTHWEST UNIVERSITY APPLICATION and FINANCIAL AID has been received you will receive an ACCEPTANCE LETTER into NORTHWEST and SFTC.

6.     AWARD LETTER

-       Once FINANCIAL AID has been processed you will receive via EMAIL an award letter informing you how much FINANCIAL AID funds you will receive. You can contact FINANICAL AID with any further questions or to request for PARENT PLUS LOANS for more funding to cover the program.

7.     RESIDENTIAL LIFE

-       Student will select the option of either living ON CAMPUS or OFF CAMPUS. Students that select the option to live ON CAMPUS will be sent a RESIDENTAL LIFE CONTRACT via email and can either email or mail it back to SFTC info@southfloridatechnicalcenter.org OR 1955 N FEDERAL HIGHWAY SUITE J201 POMPANO BEACH, FLORIDA 33062.

8.     BUSINESS OFFICE CLEARANCE

-       Student must CLEAR the BUSINESS OFFICE. Arrangements (Payment Plan) must be made to cover balances that Financial Aid does not cover. The Business Office will inform you of a REFUND or a BALANCE. No student will be permitted to start SFTC until they have successfully CLEARED THE BUSINESS OFFICE.
